House of Bauble

FRIDAY QUOTE

I’m not going to lie, I’m guilty of telling everyone my plans and ideas and never going through with them. I feel that in a way I’m jinxing it by telling everyone. So starting today, I will spend less time talking about it and actually start doing it.

Happy Friday!

Some of my favorite things…

I took a stroll around the Distillery district one weekend and found lifelike pictures made out of Rubik’s cubes! How amazing is that? Check out more art work here.

Excerpt from post card:

Cube Works Studio is the result of a collaboration of Artists and Graphic Architects whose goal is to create a form of art that is retro, yet avant-garde, by re-contextualizing the aesthetic possibilities of the 1980’s toy graze, the Rubik’s cube.

INSIDE THE DESIGNERS STUDIO

A few nights ago, I handcrafted a new necklace for my House of Bauble collection named Chloé. Chloé is made of deep blue or coral stones, crystal quartz and silver beads. It’s a statement piece guaranteed to turn heads and give your outfit a bold look.  Each jewelry piece has the House of Bauble signature tag.

The necklace will soon be available on my Etsy shop. If have any questions regarding the pieces, please email me at houseofbauble@gmail.com.

We should all do things that make us happy because we end up being the best we can be and life is just better when we do what we love. Happy Monday!!

Inspiration + Blogging

I can spend hours browsing through blogs and finding inspiration. As I was browsing Girl Obsessed, I came across The Vamoose. Let me just say that the author behind the blog makes the most beautiful jewelry ever! And the way she showcases her baubles on her blog is breath taking. The images are amazing and I love the color palettes! I definitely recommend checking it out!

Starting a blog is not an easy task.  Updating iton a regular basis is a challenge, especially if you work a 9-5 job and want a life outside of work. I do enjoy posting my thoughts, my inspirations and my latest jewelry creations but sometimes its hard to find the time. In the next few weeks, I’m hoping to get a steady schedule going and showcase more of my jewelry. Every day I’m learning more and more about building a brand and maintaining a blog and I hope to incorporate the knowledge into my work and showcasing my best work.

Have a great weekend!

If you every need custom made tags, I would definitely recommend connecting with Emily. Based on your needs, she will provide you with options and will deliver your order in a timely fashion! ACT THE WAY YOU WANT TO FEEL

In the May 2012 issue of Flare magazine, Dan Levy contributed an article titled “A Solitary Man” Dan Levy is lonely, and he’s OK with that. Dan Levy contributes to Flare magazine and shares his life experiences. In this particular article, he tells the readers that it’s okay to feel lonely. I’m often intrigued in people’s way of coping with difficult times and achieving success. We are all human and we often experience similar feelings and emotions. When I read this particular article, it made me realize that it’s okay to feel lonely sometimes.

I often hear songs that make us believe that we are incomplete without the other (Dan Levy makes references to “Lost without you”, “It takes two” and “One is the Loneliest Number.”) Sometimes you miss that person that got away or broke your heart or you miss the feeling of having company. But you need to learn how to be alone and appreciate what you have in the moment. You cannot depend on others for your happiness. You are in control of your mood (“Act the way you want to feel”). I believe feeling lonely is inevitable and it’s not a bad thing. You just need to learn how to cope with it.

CRAFT THERAPY (FOOD EDITION): BANANA ICE CREAM

I’m all about making stuff because it gives me a sense of accomplishment and I find it relaxing and calming. However, when it comes to making food, it doesn’t come easy to me. Cooking and baking is a long process and I rather pick up some food on the way home. I’m not very experienced which is why I’d prefer to follow a recipe. This past weekend, I browsed through my Chatelaine magazine and picked three recipes I’d make this week. The following recipe, however, is not from my magazine but a recipe my roommate shared with me. It’s by far the easiest recipe to follow (pst.. only one ingredient!) Yes, you’ve read right. Only one ingredient to make a creamy ice cream!

Banana Ice Cream

Ingredients:

  • Banana
  • Chocolate chips (optional)
  • Walnuts (optional)

Steps:

• Peel your bananas first.
• Cut them into small pieces.
• Freeze for 6 hours on a plate.
• Blend in food processor until creamy (scrape off the sides when it sticks)
• Enjoy your banana ice cream with chocolate chips or walnuts or both!

CRAFT THERAPY: CUSTOM STATIONARY

I attended RE:Creative Stationary DIY workshop in April and we made cards and decorated envelops. Instead of sending out plain looking envelops, why not add a personal touch with decorative paper!

Materials:

  • envelop
  • decorative paper
  • glue or double sided tape
  • scissors
  • pencil

Steps:

  1. Choose your decorative paper
  2. Put the opened envelop on top of the decorative paper and trace
  3. Cut out what you have traced and make sure it fits perfectly inside the envelop
  4. Apply glue to flap of the envelop and glue on decorative paper
  5. Make someone smile by sending them a card

DISCOVERY WALK

It was a beautiful day in the city: clear sky and warm weather. I couldn’t be cooped up at home spending countless hours listening to music, de-cluttering my room and wasting time on the computer, so I took the opportunity to soak up the sun. Plus, I don’t get to enjoy the sunshine during the week with my nine to five job.

I left my house and started walking aimlessly. In a chaotic city, it’s hard to find a peaceful area to relax. But tucked away behind old buildings, I found a beautiful and quiet area. An hour later, I found myself walking around the St Lawrence Market, where I found the Sunday Antique Market. There were so many beautiful gems (definitely worth checking it out).

I believe it’s important to try new things and even things that scare you. It makes you appreciate things and makes realize the things you like and dislike. It also might lead you to something great. Go ahead and try something new.
